But marriage is not meant to be the final step in a couple’s relationship—it is really just the beginning of a grand adventure, that will be long and fruitful for each couple. 

You have shared the joys, blessings, and yes, the challenges, of married life for _______ years. And, today you wish to reconfirm your commitment to working together to make your marriage grow and blossom in the years to come. May this ceremony, renewing the vows you took to become husband and wife on your wedding day, remind you that despite the stresses in every life, your love, respect, trust and understanding of each other will continue to increase your contentment and heighten your joy in living.

Commitment Ceremony

Welcome, you have all come today to witness and celebrate the drawing together of two separate lives. This may be the first ceremony of this type you have participated in or witnessed, or it may not, but its purpose and its heart is quite simple even as it is profound. We have come so that PARTNER 1 and PARTNER 2 may celebrate their union. It is by their love and that they will be united here today. And they wish to celebrate this passage in the presence of your love and support and to share their joy in each other with you, their family and their friends. 

The Vision 

Love is perhaps the most profound experience that we can have.  Love is one of life's greatest joys, and when this is combined with real friendship, both are infinitely enhanced. The day-to-day companionship, the pleasure in doing things together, or in doing separate things but delighting to exchange experiences, is a continuous and central joy that those in love share together. 

Deep knowledge of another is not something that can be achieved in a short time, and real understanding of the other's feelings can develop fully only with years of intimacy. This wonderful knowledge of another person grows out of truly caring for the other so much that one wants to understand as completely as possible what the other is feeling. Thus it is possible to share not only joys and successes, but also the burden of sorrows and failures. Sand Unity Ceremony ( Add $25 if we provide supplies )

Spouse2 & Spouse1, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings and this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. 

The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand. These containers represent all that you were, and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As the two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be.

Sand Unity Ceremony with Children ( Add $25 plus $5 per child if we provide supplies )

Spouse1 and Spouse2, today you are making a life-long commitment to share the rest of your lives with each other and honor your children as well. Family relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these individual containers of sand; each representing all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be. 

There are children who will share in this marriage. (Children Names) will now come forward to help us with the Blending of the Sands. The gathering of this new family will have a deep influence upon them. We realize that in order for the home to be a happy one, it is essential that there be love and understanding between the children and the adults being married. 

As you each hold your sand, the separate containers of sand represent your lives to this moment; individual and unique. As you now combine your sand together, your lives also join together as one family. 

You may now blend the sand together symbolizing the uniting of the children and Spouse1 and Spouse2 into one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage and your family be

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have one more part to this Ceremony called the Blessing of the Shells Ceremony. I’m going to ask you to each take a shell to the waters edge and make a blessing on it for Spouse1 and Spouse2, then at the count of three, cast your shell into the water. 

The ripples that will be made represent the love and good wishes, not only for Spouse2 & Spouse1, but for all of us. As the ripples cross and re-cross one another, so do the love and good wishes touch and re-touch each of you daily as these two families join together.
